Acne Treatments That Work

To treat acne, you must get to the root cause of acne. These creams out here that promise the world in eliminating acne are only temporary band-aid solutions that work for a time, but the acne will pop up again. After all, it is one of the ways your body eliminates toxins.

What causes acne?

The cause of most acne actually comes from the food and drinks we take in. Even oily skin is caused by your diet. Simply eliminating all processed sugars from your diet will typically resolve this issue and clear up skin in a matter of days, however, there are some cases where acne is present because of a nutritional deficiency. Did you know as well, that in less industrialized societies there is less acne seen on people? This suggests that diet maybe a key factor interacting with hormones.

In my research, I’ve discovered that Zinc (yes, zinc) may offer a new realm of remedy for acne. Just 50 mg of zinc three times a day and switching to a drying lotion or natural skin care product such as the ones offered by Oz Naturals which offers Free shipping on orders over $35.They have an “Oily Skin” line of products that will do wonders in drying the skin helping to eliminate acne.

If you don’t want to go that route, any sulphur based cream/lotion will work as well, as sulphur is great for drying up the skin and getting rid of acne. The only thing with sulphur based creams/lotions is that they will excessively dry out your skin to the point of flaking.

What kind of Zinc should I take?

With so many different forms of zinc out there, you really need to do your research here, but lucky for you – I’ve done a ton of research on this. The best zinc to buy is orotate or picolinate because both are better absorbed by the body. Zinc orotate is extremely hard to find when it comes to quality. Global Healing Center sells a NueroFuzion product with it in it, but not by itself and if you’re anything like me – I require 30 mg a day due to how my body methylates and this product only as 3 mg per serving. VitaSprings sells NOW Zinc Pincolate that I recommend.

When taking the zinc and using the drying lotion or natural skin care product(s) for oily skin, I also recommend eating 2 TBSP of Brewer’s Yeast a day (also sold by Starwest Botanicals). Why Brewer’s Yeast?

According to, “There are two specific trace minerals in brewer’s yeast which work to keep skin healthy, possibly improving acne. These minerals are selenium, and chromium. Selenium works to help the body produce antioxidant enzymes, which work to help prevent cell damage by protecting and nurturing them. These antioxidants also promote cell turnover, which can improve both the health and appearance of the skin.

Chromium works to help the body maintain balanced blood sugar levels, which may assist in reducing the effects of the acne cascade on the body. Acne is typically caused by a hormonal imbalance, which triggers an overproduction of sebum, or oil, by the sebaceous glands. This excessive amount of oil can become clogged within a pore, and when combined with dead skin cells, creates bacteria, which leads to acne symptoms, or pimples. Some believe that when our insulin hormones kick into high gear, other hormones may become knocked off balance, triggering this cascade, and resulting in breakouts on the surface of the skin.

If you’ve had acne and have scars resulting from it, the best treatment out there is not only incorporating Zinc supplements into your diet, but increasing your intake of Vitamin A, B Complex, and Vitamins D and E.  Zinc will prevent future breakouts while the other vitamins will take care of any scar tissue resulting from previous breakouts. Make sure not to take more than 2500 IU of Vitamin A a day as too much Vitamin A is actually detrimental to your health.

Another cause of acne has been shown in the intestines. If your body cannot properly eliminate waste, it will try and excrete toxins out through your skin. Common bowel issues such as constipation and diarrhea have been linked to increased acne in the patient. If this is the case, taking acidophilus capsules will eliminate acne in a matter of days. Starwest Botanicals sells excellent quality acidophilus by the gram which can easily be taken orally or put into capsules and taken that way. They also sell capsules to put this into. I recommend taking four capsules daily and increasing as necessary till the acne is cleared.

Vitamin E is great for the skin! Buy some Vitamin E oil and spread the oil all over your face, next add a coat of egg white all over the oiled areas. Wait about 30 minutes and then rinse off with water. The result is tightened, toned skin that you will absolutely love. 🙂

Another facial treatment is steaming the face for five minutes over hot water (so you can do this while taking a hot shower- this opens up the pores in your face) and then taking equal parts of heavy fresh organic cream and fresh cod liver oil by Green Pasture, mix together and apply to the face. Leave on for 15-20 minutes and rinse off with water. In three days you will have clear skin.

I’ve always had clear skin (mostly due to being raised on a farm with sulfur well water) but since moving away from home, I have been prone to breakouts if I eat the wrong foods or my diet is off and these treatments have always done wonders for me. Comment below on your own experiences. I’d love to hear them!

  1. Hey there! I have a lot of acne before and now there’s some left. I have acne scars and I want to get rid both the acne scars and the acne. I tried different things before such as Aloe Vera gel but all of them didn’t work. I read your article that increasing my vitamins and minerals will help on clearing my face. Do you think adding centrum supplement will help me clear my face?

    1. I would not take Centrium as those vitamins are synthetically derived so your body has a hard time absorbing it.  Look for a whole food based vitamin supplement. Your body uses vitamins to repair itself. Good luck and I wish you the best! 🙂
